The Management of Examinations.

This group of readings describes the university examination system in India, and suggests improvements which can be implemented within the current framework of the system. The papers are grouped into six sections: (1) descriptions of the evolution of the undergraduate examinations in India and their present status; (2) discussions of the confidential operations required to be executed in the examination offices along with spot evaluation and revaluation of answer scripts; (3) descriptions of examination aids like question banks and computers; (4) descriptions of statistical innovations--one that has been tried out by Gauhati University and others which are possible in mass-conducted examinations; (5) discussions of the social and curricular aspects like abolishing pass and fail in university examinations, introduction of the semester system, and malpractices in examinations; and (6) an Indian bibliography of university examinations in the post-independence period.
