Summarized are results of the National Science Foundation's Survey of Scientific and Engineering Expenditures at Universities and Colleges for the fiscal year 1979. The principal finding is that research and development expenditures at universities and colleges totaled $5.2 billion in fiscal year 1979, up 12% in current dollars and 3% in constant 1972 dollars over 1978 levels.
