Personal and Family Financial Planning: A Resource Manual for Community College Instructors.
Dettman, Norb; And Others
This resource manual was designed to improve community college instructors' understanding of personal and family financial planning (PFFP) and to provide them with guidelines for developing and implementing PFFP programs. After introductory material, the manual presents a five-part teaching guide, "Teaching Personal and Family Financial Planning in the Community College," by Robert Clark, Jacki Snyder, and James Vomhof. The guide presents: (1) rationale for teaching financial planning; (2) suggestions for planning a PFFP program; (3) ways of integrating financial planning topics into existing courses; (4) a suggested outline for a modular PFFP course covering financial goal setting; insurance coverage; tax savings; financial aspects of family partnerships, marriage, and divorce; investments; and wills; and (5) suggestions for a two-day staff workshop, including objectives, topics, and activities. Next, Betty Tully's article, "The Counselor's Role in Personal and Financial Planning," is presented, which includes an outline for a learning module on "The Psychology of Money" and points to areas in the career planning sequence where money is an important issue and where career counselors play a major role. Finally, Iris Elfenhein discusses the role of the American Council of Life Insurance in promoting PFFP education and lists and describes the resource materials the Council makes available for staff developers, instructors, and students.
