Report of Project on Development of a Curriculum Framework for Continuing Education in Nursing in Indiana.
Schweer, Jean E., Ed.; Puetz, Belinda E., Ed.
A project involved development of a statewide generalized curriculum framework for continuing education in nursing by using an anticipatory approach to the selection of a coordinated, schematic arrangement of sequential course offerings by university-based centers for continuing education in nursing in Indiana. Following preliminary meetings of the project task force and its subcommittees and a two-day workshop, a project activities plan was formulated. Project activities included developing a statewide philosophy for continuing education in nursing, analyzing regional self-study reports to determine future educational needs, developing a curriculum framework for program development in continuing education for nurses, defining desired exit behaviors of learners in terms of levels of educational attainment, defining broad areas of needed courses, designing a master plan for offering broad content areas by state region, implementing both the master plan and recommended curriculum framework for program development, and preparing an evaluation plan for the total project. (Appendixes, constituting two-thirds of the document, include information pertaining to regional administrative profiles, regional breakdowns of occupational emphases of learners, and population and learner characteristics; communicable deseases and causes of death in Indiana; available state human and clinical resources; and projected future health care needs.)
