Successful Student Services Practices in National University Extension Association (NUEA) Institutions.
DiSilvestro, Frank R.
A study was conducted to determine what types of student service activities take place in National University Extension Association (NUEA) institutions. By means of two questionnaires, information on a total of 134 student service activities from 69 NUEA institutions was gathered. The reported practices are indexed by state and by type of activity. Each practice is described as submitted by the university. The description format is as follows: (1) title of student service activity; (2) contact person to whom inquiries can be made; (3) location where the student service activity takes place; (4) program objectives--a description of the intended outcome of the student service activity, and frequently, the methods by which the outcomes were pursued; (5) costs of the service and how it was funded, including user fees; (6) results--whether the program objectives were met and a description of the overall effect of the student services activity; and (7) recommendations made on the basis of both the institutions' and users' experiences with the program--ideas on how to strengthen the programs. The collected information is intended to serve as a resource for faculty and staff of NUEA institutions, allowing institutions that would like to start, expand, or modify their own student service practices an opportunity to examine and use current successful practices in other universities.
