Who Is in Control of Your Life? A Pre-Employment Package Containing Group Leader Training Guide.
Manning, Doris E.; Watson, Martha
This pre-employment training package consists of a group leader training guide and five units of instructional materials dealing with self-esteem, decision making, solving communication problems, values clarification, and stress management. The leader's guide covers using package materials, recruiting a group, preparing for and presenting the units, training techniques, feedback, evaluation, and wrap-up. Unit 1 provides exercises on building positive self-esteem, assessing one's strength, and speaking up. Exercises included in unit 2 treat such aspects of values clarification as what values are, where values are learned, working out value conflicts, and determining one's own values. Decision-making exercises presented in unit 3 deal with the following topics: individual decision-making effectiveness, avoiding decisions, steps in decision making, how choices influence one's life, and strengthening one's decision-making ability. Unit 4 contains exercises devoted to such communication problem-related issues as individual roles in conflict, listening to one's body, exploring one's expectations, games and how to stop playing them, behavior reinforcement, and the role of one's need to be loved. Unit 5 discusses ways to set oneself up for stress and how to manage stress. Pre- and posttests are provided in each unit. (MN)
