This handbook contains 14 essays on practical skills necessary for providing instructional and administrative services to correspondence students. Topics covered in individual essays include the definition of student services, an overview of instructional service, staff supervision, effective school record keeping, principles of communications, motivational learning theory in home study, motivation theory applied, evaluation and grading of student work, a student's view of the home study process, ancillary services, public relations in the education department, developing a correspondence study degree program, combined home study/residence training courses, and achievement and completion documents. The essays, which vary in length from 7 to 21 pages, contain specific suggestions for program implementation in areas ranging from how to establish records to issuing creatively designed diplomas.
