Several articles of interest to teachers of English as a second language (ESL) are included. The teaching of literacy skills in migrant classes is considered in "An Approach to Reading and Writing for the New Language Learner" by Pat O'Brien. Gloria Keil demonstrates how news of recent events can be brought to the notice of migrants in simplified English in "A Weekly Newsletter in Simplified English for Migrants." Richard A. Via discusses oral skills in "Talk and Listen." The work of a materials writing workshop in South Australia is reported by Ken Methold in "Towards Adequate Course Descriptions and Materials Production." C. J. Brumfit offers a brief position paper entitled "Getting Away from the Teacher-Dominated Classroom." Val Davanzo looks at the advantages of having a bilingual teacher equipped to use the common native language of the class in "The Use of the Bilingual Teacher."
