The first section of this handbook defines terms and Federal regulations that deal with equal educational and employment opportunities, sex and racial discrimination, and affirmative action. The next two sections present current definitions of minority groups and fact sheets on sex and race discrimination with an emphasis on employment practices and trends in educational institutions. Included is a form for evaluating institutional sexism in organizational settings. The next section is devoted to a detailed checklist originally published by the Council on Interracial Books for Children for rating racism and sexism in schools. The handbook concludes with a policy statement adopted by the Rhode Island Board of Regents. (MK)
