This final report discribes the implementation and findings of a revised version of the Hawai'i Nutrition Education Needs Assessment Plan. The plan was designed to provide data for use in developing and improving nutrition education in Hawaii. This report deals separately with a literature review, methodology and development of the student diet recall procedures, and questionnaires for students, parents, teachers, school administrators, food service managers, school nurses, and community agencies. Data analysis procedures and questionnaire results are presented; U.S. Department of Agriculture requirements and State Nutrition Education Advisory Council goals are addressed in turns of the findings. In summary, while the literature provided guidelines for carrying out nutrition education needs assessments and program development, it also contained cautions regarding the difficulty of the task. Annotated bibliographies of agencies providing nutrition services and training programs and resources for speakers and instructional materials are appended. (Author/GK)
