MCPS Curriculum Development Planning Process.
Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville, MD. Dept. of Instructional Planning and Development.
The procedure documented is used for the systemwide planning of curriculum development in Montgomery County, Maryland, and consists of three parts: a planning and review process; an instructional design and development model; and a proposed calendar for cyclical review of programs. Specific position responsibilities, organizational charts, and task responsibility charts are included. The six stages of the planning and review process are outlined, beginning with examining approved purposes and ending with evaluating and recycling. The instructional design and development model shows the process and components used in implementing curricular change in compliance with local regulations. The components described are: curriculum, instruction, evaluation, reporting, and management. An example of an application of the process to the development of the ninth grade health curriculum is given. The proposed calendar for review of the programs lists sixteen programs, their divisions, and the fiscal year in which they will be reviewed. A copy of the forms used for transmitting the proposed curricula and the regulations covering curriculum development and approval are appended. (FG)
