Bulgarians: Dances.
Jordanoff, Nicholas, Comp.
This booklet describes and presents instructions and background for five popular Bulgarian folk dances. The document is part of an ethnic heritage teaching unit on folk arts of the Bulgarian people. The objective of the project is to help American students in elementary, junior high, and high schools understand and appreciate Bulgarians and their culture. The document is presented in eight chapters--one chapter devoted to each of the five dances (Daichovo, Eleno Mome, Pravo Horo, Paidushko Horo, and Ruchenitsa), chapters presenting an overview of Bulgarian folk dances and rhythms, and a concluding chapter explaining how to learn irregular rhythms. For each dance, information is presented on pronunciation of the dance name, background, rhythm, tempo, group formation, sequence of steps and movements, and measures and counts. (DB)
