A Study of Sixth-graders Energy Attitudes: Evaluation of an Energy Module.
Barrow, Lloyd H.
Reported is a study of sixth-graders' attitudes towards electrical energy. Students in Catawba County, North Carolina schools, which field-tested the Energy for Today and Tomorrow (EFTT) module, completed a 17-item attitude test, the Environmental Opinion Scale. This instrument measured opinions regarding nuclear power, electrical power generation, and the environmental impact of power generation. Three treatments were administered: (1) the EFTT module, (2) a different energy unit, and (3) no treatment. The small sample size of the EFTT group did not permit judgments about the influence of EFTT on attitudes to be made. However, analyses of variance performed upon posttest data from all groups revealed several statistically significant findings related to male-female attitude differences and differences in attitudes between treatment groups.
