Student Satisfaction at The College of Staten Island: A Study of June 1980 Graduating Students.
Picciano, Anthony G.
Characteristics of the 1980 graduating student population of the College of Staten Island and student satisfaction with their college experiences were studied. A modified version of the student attrition questionnaire of the National Center for Higher Education Management Services, which is appended, was administered to the 770 graduates and the overall college population of 10,416. Information was obtained regarding student demographic data, major, degree received, goals achieved at the college, satisfaction with academic experiences, satisfaction with administrative services and facilities, and future plans. Information was also obtained from college student files. The mean age of graduating students was 29.18 years, and most of the older students were part-time students. It is estimated that at least 62 percent of the graduates were employed in either full-time or part-time jobs while attending school. Full-time, younger students were very interested in preparing for new careers, while part-time, older students were more interested in improving their skills and chances of advancement at their existing jobs. In general, all the graduates were highly satisfied with their experiences at the college and the ability to achieve their goals. The largest percentage of the bachelor degree graduates who will continue their education will attend other units of the City University of New York. Most of the associate degree graduates who plan to continue their studies will be returning to the College of Staten Island. (SW)
