Proceedings of the National Conference on the Impact of Collective Bargaining on the Quality of Education Today are presented. Among the contents are the following papers: "The Importance of Improving the Quality of Education in Our Schools," by Laura Clausen; "Quality Education, Collective Bargaining and Social Equity," by Richard deLone; and "The Effect of Collective Bargaining on the Quality of Education," by Robert Doherty. Panel discussions concerning Doherty's and deLone's addresses are included. In addition, six workshops were held on the following topics: collective bargaining and academic freedom; Proposition 13 and its impact on collective bargaining; alternatives to the bilateral model; collective bargaining in higher education; how to improve the collective bargaining process; and the impact of collective bargaining on the quality of education today. A question and answer period followed each of the workshops and panel presentations; edited portions of those sessions are included. Laura Clausen's analysis suggests that collective bargaining has already affected governance structure and quality education. On the other hand, Richard deLone argues that there is not much relationship between quality education and collective bargaining, but also predicts that quality education is only possible if social justice exists. Robert Doherty posits that collective bargaining is not solely responsible for the decline in school achievement and increase in per pupil costs, but nevertheless feels it has contributed to these things.
