The report summarizes the main findings of the 1978-79 Louisiana State Survey of Hearing Impaired and Deaf-Blind Children and Youth, conducted by the Office of Demographic Studies at Gallaudet College. The survey included information on 1,470 hearing impaired students receiving special educational services in the state. Of this total, 111 of the students were also reported to be visually handicapped. The report describes these students in terms of ethnic and language background, audiological findings, presence of additional handicaps, and parental hearing status. A description of the types of services received by hearing impaired students in the state is also given. (Author)
