Industrial Arts Career Exploration. A Project Evaluation, 1978-1979.
Slack, Neill C.; Hughes, Larry
The Industrial Arts Career Exploration (IACE) Program in Utah was evaluated for the year 1978-79 in order to describe the status of the programs, numbers, organizational patterns, and participants. This information was collected by visiting the schools and using an information form; additional evaluation was derived by comparing Career Education Inventory scores of 455 representative junior high school students in the IACE program. Comparisons were made on recognition of IACE occupations and non-IACE occupations; relationship to data/people/things for occupations; and recognition of educational requirements and common tools. Comparison of the data provided information such as the following: (1) students in higher grades scored higher, but not significantly so; (2) seven times as many boys were tested as girls and the boys scored slightly higher than the girls in all categories; (3) the majority of the schools had forty modules in use; (4) the students who used the audio playback unit showed significant differences over non-users in most evaluation categories; (5) students who used the slide/tape program scored higher; and (6) students scored significantly higher on the data/people/things test section. The evaluation concluded that only the orientation slide tape and evaluation devices had identifiable impact upon careers and that the teacher or teachers were the single most significant influence on a successful program.
