A Teacher Center's Greatest Hits.
Caesar, Elizabeth H., Ed.; Caesar, Sanderson, Ed.
This handbook describes the seventeen most popular and effective items made in the Philadelphia Teacher Parent Center. The handbook recounts not only "how-to-do-it" strategies for use in a teacher center but also tips on how to store, present, explain, and use items. Research done on the teacher center involved two separate survey forms which analyzed the effectiveness of the learning experience. Observations and suggestions culled from teachers and parents draw on a myriad of information concerning topics such as the age appropriateness of materials; classroom vs. group size; the importance of making organizers, such as bookshelves and file boxes; and the importance of parent participation in projects. Other areas investigated included the questions of: "What topic was taught with this item?" and "How did you use this item in your classroom?" Suggestions for teacher center activities include uses for bingo, blocks, cubes, calendars, carrels, clocks, color words, the hundred board, and puzzles. (JN)
