Transfer Students Academic Progress at the University of California and the California State Universities and Colleges.
Slark, Julie; Bateman, Harold
In 1980, a study was conducted to assess the academic performance of former Santa Ana College (SAC) students who transferred to the California State University (CSU) system or the University of California (UC) system in 1979-1980. The total number of transfer students to the CSU system was 1,343, a figure which had remained constant over the previous five years. Similar consistency was seen in the students' grade point averages (GPA's); on an average their GPA at the state universities was 2.72, representing a 0.13% decrease from their SAC average of 2.85. Of the CSU transfer students, 67% attended one school, CSU Fullerton, where most majored in Business Administration and related fields, such as Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing. In Fall 1978, the last year for which UC transfer data were available, 52 former SAC students transferred to the system. The average entering GPA's and university GPA's of the SAC transfer students were higher than those of other community college transfer students, and the university GPA's of those transfers who were eligible to enter the UC system upon high school graduation were comparable to those of UC native students.
