Postgraduation Activities: All Degree Levels in Pennsylvania, 1979.
Donny, William F.
The employment of graduates of all degree levels in Pennsylvania institutions of higher education in 1979 was examined, based on data for 44,875 graduates or 50.6 percent of all higher education graduates. Research was designed to determine what proportion of graduates in each degree field and degree level were employed in their fields of preparation, employed in another field, employed in Pennsylvania, unemployed, or pursuing advanced degrees. Differences in these postgraduation activities by institutional type were also determined, and comparisons were made to 1978 data. Analysis indicated that in 1979 full-time employment for graduates at all five degree levels increased by 2.7 percent over 1978. Unemployment and part-time employment decreased by 2.4 and 0.3 percent, respectively, in 1979, while those pursuing advanced degrees remained at the 16.2 percent level for both years. At the bachelor's level employment was highest for graduates of computer sciences, health professions, and engineering. (SW)
