Teaching Reading by Correspondence to Children with Reading Defects.
Thirty-five children with reading problems received lessons by mail for 6 weeks in the summer. Lessons included illustrations and pictures and provided tokens for motivation. Significant differences were found in pre- and posttest gains in reading achievement between Ss and a control group. Subsequent studies demonstrated further value of correspondence instruction, including improved attitudes and increased favorable parental and teacher reactions. (CL)
