The Sex and Disability Training Project 1976-1979. Final Report.
Bullard, David G.; And Others
In 1976, with a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Sex and Disability Unit began training disabled and nondisabled professionals and paraprofessionals to serve as sociosexual educator-counselors for physically disabled persons; this is the final report of that project. Training included lectures on the sexual aspects of specific medical conditions and disabilities, role-playing of counseling situations, practicum experience, and group sessions dealing with explicit sexual material. In their field placement, trainees were supervised in program development and in the provision of direct educational and counseling services to clients and inservice training to staff. Analyses of evaluation data indicate that trainees met or exceeded project objectives. Over 90% of the graduates found employment or attended college or graduate school subsequent to their training. Project staff and graduates are available as consultants to help establish similar training programs. (Author/CS)
