This report discusses a project to provide a comprehensive pre-service and inservice training program for adult basic education (ABE) teachers and paraprofessionals throughout Kentucky. It is arranged by the project's six components. Chapters 1 and 2 focus on two activities of the adult learning disabilities teacher training component: Adult Learning Disabilities Workshop to provide training in the diagnosis of adult learning problems using the London Procedure and vision screening kits, and Adult Learning Disabilities Pilot Workshop to develop awareness of adult learning problems and procedures to detect students with learning problems. Chapter 3 discusses analysis and evaluation of Kentucky's Paraprofessional Homebound Instruction Program. Chapter 4 describes competency-based adult education (CBAE) inservice training to provide teachers with skills to include CBAE materials in traditional instructional programs in reading, math, and writing. Chapter 5 concerns ABE credit training for educators concentrating on problems of teaching disadvantaged adults. Chapters 6 and 7 focus on two activities of the paraprofessional training program to provide orientation in basic techniques and methods for new or inexperienced paraprofessionals (workshop) and continuous training for experienced paraprofessionals (conference).
