During April and May, 1980, a comprehensive survey of special needs, as related to the delivery of vocational assessment services, was carried out in the Assabet and Blackstone Valley (MA) regional school districts. Information was collected through a systematic procedure and with the use of structured survey instrumentation as described. All data collected from the needs survey instrument was clearly charted in graph format with the identification of schools, totals for categories and comparative percentages indicating size, strength, level of participation and commitment to a range of special services. Comparative information was provided regarding scheduling, logistics, school layout, and material resources that might contribute to the vocational assessment process. Further demographic and employment information assisted the planning process of implementing Phase II of the project. Information was used to: (1) obtain a demographic perspective; (2) select pilot test schools; (3) assist in setting up the assessment process within individual schools; (4) allow for maximum use of resources; (5) access the internal operating procedures of schools; and (6) assist in long range planning.
