Competency Based Curriculum Guide for Practical Nursing Education in Virginia. Final Report.

This final report contains a three-page narrative and extensive appendixes, including correspondence, surveys, field test evaluation and guide, and the Competency-Based Curriculum Guide for Practical Nursing Education in Virginia developed by the project. The over 200-page curriculum guide presents a suggested master curriculum for a twelve or eighteen month practical nursing program. Ten courses are presented in the following format: description of course, terminal objective, references, list of suggested learning activities, and course content divided lnto units. Each unit includes performance objectives, student behaviors, and a course outline. Courses and number of units in each course are (1) Personal and Vocational Relationships (10 units), (2) Structure and Function (describing a healthy body) (12 units), (3) Nutrition (5 units), (4) Nursing Skills (patient care) (8 units), (5) Medical-Surgical Nursing (18 units), (6) Drug Therapy (10 units), (7) Maternity Nursing (8 units), (8) Pediatric Nursing (7 units), (9) Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (4 units), and (10) Geriatric Nursing (9 units).
