Experiential Education Primary & Junior Divisions--1980.
Leeds and Grenville County Board of Education, Brockville (Ontario).
Containing a series of activities that complement the mathematics programme in the primary and junior division (grades 1-6) of an Ontario school system, this resource book relates mathematics skills to everyday usage, allowing children to recognise the value of mathematics in the practical sense. All objectives and strategies are designed to reinforce the corresponding basic mathematics concepts. Planned to provide a supplementary resource pack to accompany the existing Leeds and Grenville County (Ontario) Primary and Junior Mathematics Guidelines, the document provides classroom teachers with strategies and examples of practical, short, and interesting lessons which can be carried out with a minimum of preparation and with the use of readily available materials, often within schoolyard boundaries. Each unit lists an aim, topic, location, general objective, specific objectives (with examples), and follow-up activities. Overall objectives are listed as: to study and experiment both inside and outside of the classroom; to extend basic operations, measurement, graphing, problem solving and geometry skills; to participate in interesting, motivating and enjoyable learning experiences; to show ability to cooperate while developing related mathematical skills; to develop social skills; and to extend values and decision-making.
