House Corner: A Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood.

Designed for teachers and other adults who work with young children, this manual provides guidelines for designing creative house corner activities. The first chapter examines outcomes inherent in dramatic play. Chapter Two presents practical suggestions for arranging the area and selecting and displaying materials which will inspire dramatic play. Props which are appropriate for various cultural groups are listed. Sara Smilansky's six criteria for socio-dramatic play are discussed in Chapter Three as a framework for observing and assessing children's development in play. The teacher's role in teaching skills and expanding play themes is examined in Chapter Four. Specific suggestions for expanding to new themes in socio-dramatic play are presented in the last chapter.
