Volunteers in Museum Education. Sourcebook No. 2.
George Washington Univ., Washington, DC. Center for Museum Education.
This sourcebook represents a compendium of documents from museum education specialists and volunteer agencies concerned about the training and management of volunteers. The first section of the twelve-part document discusses issues which should be considered prior to initiating or changing a volunteer program. Documents within the section include "Questions to Ask Yourself,""So You Want a Good Volunteer Force," a report on a workshop on volunteer training, and excerpts from Action's National Student Volunteer Program. The sections which follow provide suggestions for using volunteers in various jobs, recruitment techniques, sample contracts, bylaws, training manuals, and application forms. Two model handbooks for volunteers and evaluation methods are also included. A section on legal and political issues discusses insurance, the Virginia State Government Volunteer Act, two articles on the state of volunteerism, and recommendations for providing tax credit to volunteers. The final section contains resources and a bibliography. (KC)
