This task force report evaluates the impact of AACR2 (American Anglo Catalog Rules 2) and the closing of the Library of Congress card catalog on cataloging and other technical processing routines both in Alderman Library and its branches. It provides specific recommendations for the form of the catalog, changes in operating routine, the organization of the cataloging department, authority control (including links), and serials. Appendices include a comparison of AACR1 and AACR2 cataloging rules; reviews of main cards, subject cards, and periodical records requiring change; and reports on the effects of AACR2 on rare books, music, non-roman alphabets, serial cataloging, and authority and linkage work.
