In evaluating the effect of AACR2 (Anglo American Cataloging Rules 2) on the university library catalog, this report reviews the various forms of the traditional card catalog in terms of technical feasibility and cost and compares the processing under the current system with the different alternatives. In the first part of the report, the task force looks at five possible options: continuing the existing catalog, an add-on card catalog, a COM addition of film or fiche, or an online option. Part II projects the effects of the alternatives on three important areas: the creation of the catalog, the maintenance of the catalog, and its use by the library staff. The appendices include a report on catalog growth, miscellaneous cataloging costs and statistics, and a description of a simulated link-production time study. (RAA)
