Report of the Task Force on Catalog Usage.
Begg, Karin; And Others
After considering the effects of AACR2 (American Anglo Catalog Rules 2) on the present catalog system, this task force on catalog usage recommends that the university library retain the present catalog beyond 1981 and later adopt an online catalog. Other options considered were, in order of priority, (1) close the catalog in 1981 and start an add-on catalog, later switching to an online catalog; (2) close the catalog in 1981 and create a COM catalog, later switching to an online catalog; (3) retain the present catalog indefinitely; and (4) close the catalog in 1981 and create an add-on COM catalog for an indefinite period. The report summarizes arguments for and against each option leading to the preferred recommendation. Appendices include notes on the faculty forum, a user study, a user count, a circulation study for items having corporate main entry, and studies of previously unestablished headings. (RAA)
