Presidential Views of Higher Education's National Institutional Membership Associations. Summary Report.

Results of a survey of the views of college and university presidents about the national higher education associations and interviews with 33 key national observers are considered. The survey was designed to obtain presidents' perceptions of the national associations collectively and of eight selected associations individually. It focused on the relationships among the associations, their current and future roles, their programs and services, and some aspects of their operations. Usuable questionnaires were obtained from 1,284 presidents. The eight associations are the following: Association of American Colleges, American Association of Community and Junior Colleges, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Association of American Universities, American Council on Education, Council for the Advancement of Small Colleges, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.
