U 90: Danish Educational Planning and Policy in a Social Context at the End of the 20th Century.

Educational planning and policy in Denmark are considered, and the present educational system, as well as the many innovations and changes in recent years, are covered. An account is made of the factors influencing the flow of students in the system, including the imbalances and inequalities that characterize the society as a whole. Additional topics are the characteristics and attitudes of teachers, expected educational policy of the 1990s and likely social and economic developments, inequalities and approaches to an equality policy, proposals for reforms concerning the content, methods, and structure of the educational system, means and possibilities of management of the educational system which the public authorities have, and social costs to be paid to carry through suggested reforms. Diverging opinions concerning specific issues are also included. Appendices contain reports on: factors determining choice of education, participation in continued schooling and the problem of the residual group, acceptance of students for course of study, total income during working life, the basis for educational policy formulation for the future, projecting future Danish societal developments, and a statement of the Ministry of Education on the educational planning and policy "U 90 Report."
