This orientation resource for new teachers of English to non-native speakers to public school students is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1, "Getting Started," covers orienting students, surveying resources, setting up the classroom, finding "filler" activities, defining expectations, planning an individualized program, keeping records, testing, and grading. Chapter 2 deals with a few basics of second language teaching methodology. Chapter 3 is devoted to the teaching of structural content, with sections devoted to the various form classes. General content, including nonverbal language, sound system, vocabulary, numbers, and the four language skills, is covered in Chapter 4. Sample beginning lessons on orientation, the present tense of "be," and the imperative are set forth in the final chapter. A variety of diagrams and charts are interspersed throughout the text, and additional ones are appended. (JB)
