The Education of Intellectually Handicapped Children in Western Australia.

The report assesses the status of education of intellectually handicapped students in Western Australia. An introductory section considers definitions, prevalence, and labeling issues. The historical development (1890-1980) of special education of the intellectually handicapped is reviewed. The administration of special education programs in primary and secondary schools is addressd in terms of such issues as student records, teacher qualifications, and curriculum. Preschool education for the intellectually handicapped and the education for severely and profoundly retarded children are examined in separate chapters. Recommendations are made throughout the text.
