Planned Course Statement "A Humanities TAG Program," Grades 7-9.

Materials related to a humanities program for talented and gifted students in grades seven through nine that reinforces skills in communication, research, and thinking and provides for independent study, are presented in this paper. Among the materials provided are the following: (1) statements about the goals, development, and format of the program; (2) a list of topics covered in the program; (3) a number of course planning worksheets that list course goals and competencies along with related instructional objectives, suggested teaching strategies, related resources (including books, films, and handouts), and evaluation methods and criteria; (4) a compilation of ideas about essential processes in creative thinking and about classroom methods for teaching them; (5) a student packet to help develop research skills; (6) suggestions for conducting a group writing clinic to help students improve their writing skills; (7) materials to use in helping students consider the future and in helping them analyze their learning and thinking styles; and (8) an orientation handbook for program mentors.
