Unified Technical Concepts. Module 2: Work.
Technical Education Research Center, Waco, TX.
This concept module on work is one of thirteen modules that provide a flexible, laboratory-based physics instructional package designed to meet the specialized needs of students in two-year, postsecondary technical schools. Each of the thirteen concept modules discusses a single physics concept and how it is applied to each energy system. In this module, work is defined, and various applications of work in the fields of mechanical, fluidal, thermal, and electrical energy are shown. Included with the concept module are eight application modules that discuss a specific application of a single concept in a single energy system, and contain a student laboratory exercise. Laboratory modules included are Work Done on an Elevator, Work Done by a Winch, Work Done by a Water Pump, Work Done by a Hydraulic Lift, Heat Energy Required for a Temperature Increase, Heat Energy Required for Melting, Heat Energy Required for Boiling, and Fundamentals of Air Conditioning.
