This booklet presents a preservice teacher education model that promotes sex equity in elementary school physical education. This competency based model details performance objectives, learning experiences, and behaviors for each of the competency areas: 1) the providing of equal opportunity education to all students; 2) the building of a positive self concept and student responsibility; 3) the development of physical, cognitive, and creative competencies; 4) the promotion of positive group functioning; 5) the establishment of a safe and developmental learning environment; and 6) the carrying out of professional responsibilities related to the school's physical education program.
