What's in the Doghouse? Teacher's Guide [and] Student Material.
Hazen, Betty
The document contains student materials and a teacher's guide for a unit to help second grade students consider decisions that must be made when purchasing and caring for a pet. Objectives are to recognize that consumers have wants and needs, identify reasons consumers go to more than one place to trade or purchase goods, and tell what responsibilities consumers have resulting from their purchases. Students draw pictures of objects they need, classify pictures according to needs and wants, consider needs of persons living in other climates, decide the best place to get a pet, and identify wants and needs of pets. The teacher's guide contains objectives, a materials list, instructions for making games, and reproducible pre- and posttests and worksheets with keys. Approximate class time for the unit is four to six hours. (KC)
