This bibliography of bibliographies presents an annotated listing of source materials and provides an overview of recent progress in Afro-American studies and literature. Since selection aids currently available fall short of the mark in providing necessary evaluation for all new materials, appropriate journals and indexes are recommended for use by the researcher or reader in the field. The main body of the bibliography is intended to assist librarians and to make available to patrons entree into this literature through background essays, key bibliographic aids, general bibliographies, subject bibliographies, documentary collections, reference works, textbooks and general histories, biographical collections, literary criticism, special library collections, and periodical resources.
