Faculty Salaries: Analysing the Difference Between Average Salaries in Terms of Distribution Effect and Salary Effect. AIR Forum 1980 Paper.
Girard, Guy; Bordeleau, Jacques
A research method used at the Conference of Rectors of Quebec Universities to analyze the structure and level of faculty salaries and to determine salary differential between universities is examined. The method breaks down into two components: the difference between the average salary observed in each institution and the average salary of the whole system. One component reflects the difference in average salary resulting from differences among universities in the characteristics of their teachers and the other reflects the difference exclusively attributable to salary policies or practices. The method can be applied in either one or in a combination of two ways. The two applications of the technique can be combined by using, for example, a regression model in each rank and the distribution by rank. Results of an estimated regression model are presented. (SW)
