The "Allied Health Education Directory," eighth edition (formerly the "Allied Medical Education Directory") is a reference work covering accredited educational programs in 24 allied health occupations. It provides allied health educators, administrators, counselors, and students with: (1) information on the development of allied health education and accreditation and on current concerns; (2) a description of the general accreditation process and of the specific process for individual occupations; (3) occupational program information; (4) specific information on accredited educational programs; (5) the standards and processes for developing educational programs qualified for accreditation; (6) procedures concerning education and accreditation; and (7) additional information related to allied health education and accreditation. Sections cover four major areas: accreditation history and allied health issues; accreditation; occupational program information (organized in alphabetical order by profession); and computer program information. Statistical tables provide basic information for each occupation and also provide a basis for comparison between and among professions. Appendix A contains guidelines for each occupation. Appendix B contains the procedure statements adopted by the committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation relating to collaboration, review committees, and programs.
