Educational Accountability and the Development of Positive Communication Techniques: The Match Between Cooperating Teacher and Student Teacher.

The document focuses on the impact of the cooperating teacher on the attitudes and behavior of the student special education teacher. The need for reform in teacher education which would produce more field based teacher training experience earlier is pointed out, and components of the Millersville State College (PA) undergraduate special education program are reviewed. Characteristics of outstanding teachers are listed, and research on teacher effectiveness is reviewed. The authors discuss the effects of cooperating teacher's teaching style and age on the attitudes and behavior of the students. The impact of the cooperating teacher on the student teacher's attitudes and behavior is stressed. Guidelines for the cooperating teacher to follow in enhancing the possibility of the student teacher's progress are given. (SBH)
