The New Religions: An Annotated Introductory Bibliography.
Center for the Study of New Religious Movements, Berkeley, CA.
This bibliography is a collection of approximately 100 citations of articles, books, and edited volumes on various aspects of new religious teachings and religious cults. Most of the entries were published between 1970 and 1977, although a few date back to the mid 1960s. Entries are divided into three major sections. Section I, New Religious Groups, presents entries in four categories--general surveys; eastern oriented, western humanistic, and western Christian and occult (pentecostal, evangelical, The Jesus Movement, and esoteric/occult). Section II focuses on the impact of new religous teachings on six areas of American society--science, psychology, education, law, Christian theology, and miscellaneous (athletics, paranormal happenings, and intellectual endeavors). The third section presents interpretative overviews of new spiritual phenomenon. For each entry, information is presented on author, title, publisher, and date of publication. In addition, brief annotations are included for more than half of the entries. (DB)
