This three-part handbook presents 22 articles dealing with the implementation and operation of fund-raising and community support programs for two-year colleges. Part I outlines the reasons for developing sources of private funds and provides information on the establishment and use of foundations, the administrative organization of fund-raising activities, the types and sources of donations, and the methods of writing effective proposals for funds from state and/or private agencies. Part II discusses community relations activities in terms of: (1) public relations efforts, (2) the establishment of volunteer programs, (3) the development of the goodwill of community leaders, (4) the establishment and implementation of needs assessment procedures, (5) the involvement of faculty and staff in a college speakers bureau which would provide presenters for community group meetings, (6) the use of cable television in public relations, (7) the expansion of the availability of college facilities to the community, (8) the provision of information about job opportunities relative to college programs, (9) the college president's role, and (10) activities to help influence bond elections. Part III presents the alumni community as a source of financial support and includes a discussion of the planning and implementation of effective alumni telephone campaigns. (JP)
