Survey Methods of the 1976-77 Expanded Eligibility Survey.
Nicholls, William L., II; Many, F. V.
Methods of the 1976-77 Expanded Eligibility Survey, which was conducted for the University of California at Berkeley and the University of California System, are described. The survey was undertaken as a supplement to the 1976 High School Eligibility Study. A subsample of the 1976 Eligibility Study graduates was mailed questionnaires to determine the graduates' ethnicity, family income, parental education, colleges applied to, colleges attended, and post-graduation employment. The influence of family, friends, high school counselors, and visiting recruiters on career choice, decisions to attend college, and college selection were also assessed. This report describes the sampling, field work, and weighting methods of the 1976-77 Expanded Eligibility Survey. Recommendations for major changes in the design of future surveys are offered. (SW)
