Cartoons, questions about the message in cartoons and narrative passages, checklists on things to consider, and the phonetic pronunciation of key words are presented. Specific topics include the following: (1) advantages of using banks; (2) the difference between commercial banks, savings banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions; (3) how to make a deposit and withdrawal from an account; (4) considering the interest rate, the effective annual yield, the bookkeeping method used by the bank, and who insures the deposits in the bank; (5) how to write a check; (6) considering the monthly service charge, check printing charge, and check bouncing charge for checking accounts; (7) how to read a bank statement; and (8) banking services sometimes offered to customers. A sample form for making a budget and a checklist of things to consider are included. (SW)
