A short fictional work for limited English speakers is presented that relates a young couple's experience in learning about managing their money more carefully by budgeting and maintaining a checking account. Since the couple did not have a checking account, they had to go to their savings bank in order to pay each bill and they had to keep cash on hand to pay for groceries. Losing a wallet with cash shortly after payday and spending too much on extras necessitated their opening a checking account and writing out a budget on bills in relation to income. Pictures illustrate the forms used at the banks for deposits and check writing. Details of the couple's budget are presented. (SW)
