Secondary German Guidelines: Levels I, II, III.
Klipple, Sitha; And Others
This manual is designed to assist schools in developing their German curriculum and to assist teachers in planning courses, units of work, and daily classroom activities. These guidelines for the teaching of German in secondary schools are based on the premises that language is communication and that language and culture are interrelated. The student-centered curriculum emphasizes student participation in the design of the learning objectives for the development of language skills and for the understanding of German culture. Each of the three levels of the total course is divided into the four basic skill areas--listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Within each of these, learning objectives, learning activities, and activities for evaluation are delineated. The culture-based curriculum aims to generate cross-cultural understanding through awareness of and empathy for the German culture and people. Throughout the guidelines, the emphasis is on learning outcomes through a variety of learning experiences and active student involvement. (PMJ)
