Becoming Sex Fair. The Tredyffrin/Easttown Program. A Comprehensive Model for Public School Districts. Stage Two Manual: Planning the In-Service Program.
Calabrese, Marylyn E.; And Others
This manual, one of four related documents, is the second stage in a sex fairness program implemented in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District (Pennsylvania). It is designed to help a school district plan an inservice program on sex-fair education for teachers, administrators, and parents. The first section describes the two steps in the inservice process, namely, developing an overall structure and schedule for the inservice program and planning individual inservice meetings. It gives specific directions for designing the program structure, preparing and leading meetings, and evaluating individual sessions as well as the total program. The remaining two sections describe activities and resources for planning inservice meetings. Twenty sample activities are grouped under the following categories: understanding sexism, becoming sex-fair, dealing with sexist materials, making sex-fair assignments, and involving parents. Each activity offers a description of its intended audience, objectives, time required, procedures for use, and alternate uses. A final section of resources offers both selected readings and an annotated bibliography on the subject of sex-fair education. (Author/LD)
